SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK
631-447-5252
A civic group in Nassau has asked the State Comptroller’s Office to
conduct an audit of the county’s Sewer and Storm Water Authority and Sewer District.
Last
month, the county was accused of taking millions of dollars out of the sewer
district to fill the county’s budget gap and make it appear that the sewer
district was going bankrupt.
The
group is requesting an audit of the district’s books and records from 2006
until present. A letter was written by the group last month to the Comptroller
Thomas DiNapoli in regards to the issue.
Part of
the letter read, “We, therefore, ask that the New York State Comptroller
conduct a full and comprehensive audit of NCSSWA and sewer district into what
appears to be unethical, and perhaps illegal transferring of funds from one
taxing entity that receives its revenue from a fraction of the county’s
population into a county-wide account to fix a budget gap.”
